  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour your baking tin, or line it with baking paper.

  2. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy.

  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

  4. Add the vanilla flavor (and almond essence if using) and mix thoroughly.

  5. In a separate bowl, mix the flour and baking powder, then gradually add this to the butter and egg mixture. Mix gently until the batter is smooth.

  6. Divide the batter equally into two bowls. In one bowl, add the cocoa powder and mix until it becomes chocolate-colored.

  1. In your prepared baking tin:

    • Pour half of the plain (vanilla) batter first.

    • Then pour the cocoa batter over it.

    • Finish by pouring the remaining plain batter on top.

  2. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the batters slightly, creating a marble effect.

  3. Sprinkle some raisins or sesame seeds on top for decoration and extra flavor.

  4. Bake for 40–50 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
